REVIEW: Seduced In The Dark (The Dark Duet #2) by C.J. Roberts

Synopsis

BOOK TWO OF THE DARK DUET

The exciting, titillating, and action-filled conclusion to Captive in the Dark.

What is the price of redemption?

Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood.

The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it’s all coming to an end.

Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance?

Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?

It seemed to Caleb, the nature of human beings revolved around one empirical truth: we want what we cannot have. For Eve, it was the fruit of the forbidden tree. For Caleb, it was Livvie.

My Thoughts

WOW! OMG... WOW! I mean seriously... WOW!
A couple of things to mention:

1st, DON'T read this book if you haven't read Captive In The Dark (The Dark Duet #1)

2nd, I'm usually not a great fan of books that swap and change people's point of view (POV) from chapter to chapter. In general, I tend to find the story hard to grasp and follow when a book is written in that style. In saying that, Seduced In The Dark changes between 3 main POVs. We get Livvie/Kitten's POV, we get Caleb's POV and we also get an FBI Agent Matthew Reed's POV. Honestly, the switching if the POVs was seamless, and it didn't happen with EVERY new chapter. It was easy to keep hold of the story and this book definitely needed to be written in that style.

Seduced In The Dark delves deeper into Caleb's past. Hmmm... Caleb... We even learn his birth name! I loved leaning more about his upbringing and his past, but I wasn't prepared for some definite shock value facts about him! Didn't make me love him any less though! And yes, he's still the same cruel bastard I came to love in Captive In The Dark...
“I’ve been doing this a long time – manipulating people to get my way. That’s why you think you love me. Because I’ve broken you down and built you back up to believe it. It wasn’t an accident. Once you leave this behind…you’ll see that.” – Caleb

“This thing between us…it has to stop. I don’t like it. I’ve tried to make this easier for you, as ridiculous as it sounds. I can’t keep you, Livvie. Stop trying to make me.”

We also get a deeper look into Livvie's mind. And thank heavens, she's toughened up a bit!
The naïve girl in me had been bitch-slapped into womanhood.

Above all else, I had learned the one thing every person has to learn to make it through life: the only person you can truly count on is yourself.

Now FBI Agent Reed...
“He’s a human trafficker, Miss Ruiz, a murderer, and a rapist. He didn’t rescue you. He captured you. There’s a wide distinction between the two. Have you considered you might have Stockholm Syndrome? Otherwise, I can’t see how you can defend him on any reasonable level.”

I loved Agent Reed's character in the book. He was very intriguing, and straight to the point, with a few dark secrets of his own!

We are also introduced to an FBI Psychologist Dr Sloan. She had be wanting to slap her around a little, also had me cracking up laughing in places, and of course, she had her own little secrets too!
“Though, you’d be surprised to learn, I’m not all free-form knitting and interpretive taxidermy. I have a dark side.”
Hmm…doubtful.
“When I’m really frustrated with things,” she giggles, “I like to get online and change things in Wikipedia!”
This bitch…is weird.

As with Captive In The dark, I totally LOVED Seduced In The Dark. It was an emotional rollercoaster of a read, and in one place, I HAD to take a break and walk away. For a few minutes there, I wanted to jump right into their world and slap some sense into people. That's how deeply you get drawn into this book!

The Dark Duet is DEFINITELY a new favourite series of mine.
