REVIEW: Fear of Falling by S.L. Jennings

Synopsis

“Don’t worry,” he smiled, pulling me into the hard warmth of his chest. “I’ve got you. I’ll always catch you when you fall.”

And just like that, Blaine had staked his claim on the untouched part of me that no living soul had ever moved. He had captured every fear, every reservation, and crushed them in the palm of his inked hand.

I can’t remember the last time I felt completely safe. Security seemed more like a luxury to me, reserved for those who were fortunate enough to have picture perfect childhoods. For those who didn’t bear the ugly scars that keep me bound in constant, debilitating fear. I’ve run from that fear my entire life. But when I met him, for once, I couldn’t run anymore.

He scared the hell out of me in a way that excited every fiber of my being. It wasn’t the tattoos or the piercings. It wasn’t the warmth that seemed to radiate from his frame and blanket me whenever he was near. It was just…him. The scary beautiful man that threatened to alter 23 years of routine and rituals, and make me face my crippling fear.

My name is Kami and I am constantly afraid. And the thing that scares me the most is the very thing I want.

My Thoughts

Currently, words are failing me at how to describe this book! Awesome... Amazing... Wow... Yes, Fear of Falling (FoF) is all of those. But they don't do it justice. They don't come anywhere near the feelings I experienced while reading it or how it left me feeling after I finished. I honestly cannot think of a word at the moment that will describe it highly enough!

In FoF we meet Kami. She is a tortured soul, but emotionally strong beyond belief. To say she had a rough childhood would me a massive understatement. Nobody should have to witness and endure what she did. As a result of her childhood Kami has a lot of fears. And I mean a LOT. Her fears have stolen her ability to love. Or so she thought... Until she meets Bliane.

Blaine is the "scary beautiful" bartender that Kami meets when she randomly picks a bar to drown her guilt in. The attraction between them both is instantaneous.
"God, why couldn't he have been named something less sexy? Like Mortimer? Or Buford?"

Trust me, I know what she means! Blaine... The chocolate brown eyes... The hard, defined muscles... The tattoos... The piercings... Oh so sexy and I want one of my own!
"Holy. Shit. His nipple was pierced."

But there's more to Blaine than just his looks. He's empathetic and wants nothing more than to be the one to rid Kami of her fears. He wants to love her and be there to catch her when she falls.
"Kami said she couldn't be saved, but I still needed to save her. She said she was broken, and I desperately wanted to fix her. She claimed she was unlovable, but... shit...

I needed to love her."

And so, we as readers, are taken on a journey through the relationship of Kami and Blaine.

FoF is written flawlessly. I was addicted from the very start. The chemistry between Kami and Blaine is seriously tangible. For most of the first half of the book I sat there reading with a "Cheshire Cat" grin from ear to ear. The second half, I cried. I mean literally cried! I had tears of sadness, and tears of happiness.

FoF is definitely an emotional read. I absolutely LOVED every moment of the journey I was taken on. In all honesty, Fear of Falling has just pole vaulted into my favourite book slot. Favourite of all time! I will most certainly re read FoF... Again... And again... And again!

I received an Advanced Review Copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
