REVIEW: Inky (The Leaves #1) by J.B. Hartnett

Synopsis

Anika “Inky” Redding is passionate about two things; her love of painting and her fiancé Evan. While working as a bartender to pay her bills, she meets Cole, a sexy divorcee. She denies their mutual attraction and tries to put him out of her mind.

When an abusive person from her childhood makes an unexpected visit, Inky’s world is turned upside down. Secrets are revealed and truths are exposed leaving Inky devastated and questioning what she thought was love. As she picks up the pieces and tries to move on, she finds her path crosses with Cole once again and this time, she cannot deny the passion between them.

Once she opens her heart again, will she be able to move forward or will her past find a way to stop her?

WARNING!! This book has a cliffhanger but don't let that stop you! Inky's story will continue with Cole in late September.

My Thoughts

OMG! I have just finished reading Inky, and am still pretty much at a loss for words! I absolutely LOVED this book! I mean really LOVED it! It's right up there on my Best of 2013 list, and has also earned a place among my all time favourite books!

First of all, the cover. WOW! It is absolutely spectacular! I looked at the cover for quite a while wondering what it symbolised. The tattoo, I figured has to be something significant. I won't spoil anything by telling you about it. The Ocean - beautiful colours and then the dark and grey to the right - also relates to the book in a major way. Yes, staring at the cover leaves you contemplating, but after you read the book, the cover fits the story PERFECTLY!

In regards to the story itself, I don't want to spoil anything for those who hasn't read it, but I will say this. All the characters felt very real. I had an instant connection to Inky, and I loved all the supporting characters. OK, maybe not all of them. One of them, maybe two, I really wanted to slap around - a lot!

The story was an emotional roller coaster. I was in tears by 24% in! That's how deeply I connected with this book. Throughout, I had both tears of sadness and happiness. I felt the joy and experienced the anxiety, love and turmoil right along with the characters.

And the CLIFFHANGER? OMG! September better fly by, as I want to know what happens next, and I want to know NOW! Don't let Inky having a cliffhanger deter you from reading this book. I promise you will not be disappointed after you have read it.

I thoroughly enjoyed J.B Hartnett's writing style - obviously. Her ability to make you feel every emotion that the characters experience is truly a gift.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
